- Colorado has 50 kids serving JLWOP. All but one is female.
- 57 percent committed crime at age 17, 22 percent at 17, 17 at 15 and 4 percent were fourteen.
- 4.4 percent black population: 26% of population serving JLWOP.
- 70.9 percent of children in state are white; they make up 29% of those serving JLWOP.
- 2/3 conviction for murder.
- 1/3 for felony murder.
- Most crimes involved guns.
- All but two committed their crimes with other teens or adults.
- First offense put most behind bars for life.
- One-third committed gang related offenses.
- CO has direct file; prosecutors have absolute control of who is filed as juvenile or adult.
- Our current governor was the prosecutor who prosecuted most of the young JLWOPS. He’s also in charge of the juvenile clemency board. He has not pardoned or commuted the sentences of any juvenile.
